Want Smoother Body Skin? Here’s Some Advice

When the weather is warm, it’s natural to want to flaunt a little more skin. But if you’re suffering from dry, rough skin, it can be a little difficult. So to get smoother skin all over, make sure you follow these skincare tips.

Exfoliate on a Regular Basis

Exfoliation is key to keeping your skin bright, smooth, and supple. But if you don’t know how to do it correctly, then you could run into some serious skin irritation and even a skin rash. That’s why it’s so important to speak with your dermatologist if you have questions about the right exfoliation techniques for your skin. In most cases, regular chemical peels can work wonders to gently exfoliate the skin. Your dermatologist may also recommend a body scrub for use once or twice weekly at home.

Wear Sunscreen Every Time You’re Outside

Sunscreen is your best friend regardless of whether you want smooth skin or not. Sun damage not only hurts your skin, but it can cause dryness, roughness, and even signs of premature aging. In order to combat this, make sure you’re using sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every time you go outside. In addition, you should be applying two or more coats of sunscreen and reapplying every two hours or so while you’re in the sun. Remember to give your skin enough time to fully absorb your sunscreen. Applying at least 15-30 minutes before you leave your house is a good practice. In addition to putting sunscreen on all exposed areas, be aware that the sun can reach through clothing. Staying in shady areas is another good way to avoid sun damage that leads to dry skin.

Cool Your Showers Down

Hot water can feel soothing even on a warm day, but it could also be seriously harming your smooth skin goals. When you take hot showers, the water is stripping your skin of its natural oils and lubricants. That means you’re even more susceptible to dry skin! Instead, shower in warm or lukewarm water to avoid harming your skin. In addition, it’s a good idea to consider shortening your showers up a little bit. Too much time in the warm water can dehydrate your skin.

Use the Right Moisturizer

You can talk all you want about moisturizing daily, but you’re not going to see results until you use the right moisturizer for your skin. Investing in cosmetic dermatology services can help you determine your skin type if you’re not sure. But for starters, if you already have dry skin, you’re probably going to want to look for a moisturizer that’s oil based and has a humectant like hyaluronic acid in it. This will help your skin draw in and retain moisture throughout the day and could lead to much smoother skin in the long run.
