Cosmetic Dermatology: Skin Treatments for a Holiday Glow

While we may all want clear, glowing skin for the holidays, it’s not something that just magically appears. But here are a few cosmetic dermatology services that can make you feel like you used magic to get that glowy look this holiday season.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are given a bad rap in television and cinema. They’re often associated with skin rashes, redness, and overall embarrassment. The exact opposite is true, though.

The truth is that peels are a great treatment for glowing skin! A series of gentle chemical peels can help you get that healthy glow in no time. You can even request a peel that targets a specific issue like hyperpigmentation. This typically occurs around the mouth and nose.

If you have a specific skin issue you’d like to target with a chemical peel, make sure you ask your dermatologist.

Microneedling

Microneedling is an excellent way to create a glowing, healthy look to your skin. This procedure works primarily to boost collagen production in the skin. Collagen helps skin look tighter, firmer, and smoother, and while it’s naturally produced in the body, stimulating its production can help reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging. Microneedling creates a series of micro-wounds in the skin, which then stimulate collagen production to heal.

It may take a few procedures to see dramatic results, but it’s likely that you’ll notice a difference after your first session.

Non-Ablative Light Therapy

Light therapy is excellent for a variety of skin conditions. It’s been used for acne skin care and rosacea. Red light therapy is particularly helpful if you’re suffering from acne. This type of light therapy works to kill a certain type of bacteria on the surface of your skin that is largely responsible for the formation of acne.

Other types of light therapy can help reduce hyperpigmentation. So if there are places on your skin, particularly around your mouth and nose, that suffer from hyperpigmentation, light therapy could be a great option for you.

That being said, it cannot be used on sun damaged skin. In addition, it’s important to avoid sun exposure for a certain period of time before and after this procedure, as it could negatively affect your results.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is excellent if you want to get a glowing look without an invasive procedure. During this process, a sharp blade is used to shave and remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. Not only does it help exfoliate your face, it also removes any unwanted hair on your face. It’s a simple procedure that doesn’t take much time at all, though pairing it with a facial can be incredibly relaxing.

If you want smooth, glowy skin for the holidays and you don’t have time for a long procedure, dermaplaning could be a great option for you.

Getting smooth, glowing skin for the holidays doesn’t have to be a hassle. If you want to get that positively radiant look for the season, you’ve got plenty of options. Set up an appointment at North Pacific Dermatology to see which treatment is right for you today.
